Just across the road from the British Museum is a small but interesting bookshop called Arthur Probsthain. Inside the small rooms are packed full of new and secondhand books about Africa and the Orient which, of course, includes Japan. There are many treasures hiding amongst its shelves especially unusual and out of print books. The shop also serves as gallery for changing exhibitions of related art and prints and there is a tea shop in the basement.

The books, separated by country and category, focus on art, music, film, religion, literature and culture. However, there is a second branch at the nearby SOAS campus that has books about politics, history, economics and business.
